The Fiela Funds
Cheetah Breeding Project is a South African Registered Non
Profit organization, primarily concerned with education. The
purpose of the Fiela Funds is to ensure the long-term survival
of the cheetah and their ecosystem. My goal is to make as many
people as possible aware of the plight of the cheetah as well as
their own role in the long term survival of this sleek cat and
their natural ecosystem.
Support for
conservation projects can only be successful if an appreciation
for our wildlife can be fostered. The personal contact with an
animal as unique and striking as a cheetah has proved very
successful with the many visitors.
It is essential
for our children to value and understand the importance of
conserving, managing, developing and utilizing natural resources
to ensure the survival of local and global environments.
Nobody who has
seen a cheetah up close, heard it purr, or had the rare
opportunity to touch it will ever forget the experience. This
experience has the power to change a specific mind-set, to
instil passion and to fill people with overwhelming awe, and it
is this experience that will hopefully ensure the continued
survival of this unique species.
Riana has been
involved with Friends of the Zoo since 1996, and owned her first
cheetah in 2006, after realizing the problems cheetahs face
towards extinction, conceptualized promoting her tame cheetah to
increase awareness and for education.
In November 2007
she launched the project with a hectare of land provided by
Emoya Estate located in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Visitors on
a game drive at Emoya have the opportunity to meet Fiela and
learn more about this endangered specie. Educational efforts
began a month ago.
Fiela
is working to save her cousins in the wild, and are available on
request for:
•
Tourist encounters
• Touch a cheetah photo sessions
• School groups
• Wedding photos
A cover fee is
charged for a visit and includes personal supervision and
transport to and from the venue as well as a talk on the
species. |
