Education

We aim to:
- Educate about saving and conserving endangered animal species like the cheetah and serval. (All cats are in fact endangered in some or other way.)
- Focus specifically on raising awareness about habitat loss, insensitive farming practises, creating a sense of empathy and respect towards the animals and the fact
that specifically cheetahs have larger predators to compete against.
- Educate visitors about making a difference together so that our children's children can see cheetah and other big cats in the wild and not only read about them in books
and on Google.
- Educate the public about the fact that we are all responsible for conserving planet earth and its creatures.
- Educate the public about the animals at our centre and provide them with facts and visual aids so that the 'danger' connotation associated with certain cats can be
'lifted' and hopefully by word of mouth we can educate an entire generation.
- Afford every visitor the opportunity to stroke a cheetah and hopefully the gentle purring sound will embed in their minds forever and prompt
them to become involved with our project in any way they can.
- Allow visitors to experience their visit by using all their senses because that's when optimal learning takes place.
- Continue to be one of the few places in South Africa that allows children under the age of 12 years an opportunity to interact with the cats.
(Children tours are every Saturday and Sunday at 10am.)
- Lead by example and believe that the volunteers act as good role models to visitors.
- Stimulate or challenge visitors to ask questions and think about long term goals in making a difference.
We do so by:
- Hosting tours of about 45 minutes each with a tour guide where visitors have a chance to interact with the animals at the centre. (11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm)
- Presenting an educational talk and tour to visiting school groups. (We do NOT take any animals off our premises as it's a too stressful experience for them.)
- By helping where we can to educate and teach the local community and under privileged school children.
- By running an international Volunteer Programme and 'spreading the word' abroad.
- Hosting and updating an informative website which provides individuals of all ages with relevant information and hopefully stimulates an interest about the
endangered species.
- We have a blog where one can read about volunteers'experiences and how these beautiful creatures have changed their lives.
- We have a group on facebook which provides daily updates and photographs on the resident animals so even after a visit you are able to keep up to date with the cats with
which you interacted.
School Tours:
- Are about one hour long. We have an area in which children can comfortably eat their lunch.
- We provide them with an audio-visual introduction.
- There after the group is divided into smaller groups and a tour on foot with a guide takes place.
Most times there will be animal interaction but this depends on the mood of the animals on that day.
- Grade R to Grade 3: Visual aids and use of their senses to learn and explore.
- Grade 4 to Grade 7: Visual aids and interesting factual information.
- Grade 8 to Grade 12: Contact the centre to see how we can accommodate your needs.
- Post or Pre Grad students can read about our volunteering programme.
